How much do event/wedding planners make and how would one go about starting the business?

I am in a technical field and I've always fantasized about planning events or weddings and I was an event coordinator in college for an organization. I guess I'd like to know more about this in case I ever decide to run a business of it in the future if I don't end up liking my field. Just curious.
