Can a boss ask/require this of you?...?

I am a project coordinator for a small general contractor in Texas. We have an employee here that lets his coffee cups pile up in the sink unwashed. Legally can my boss ask me to wash them? and if he does ask do I have to wash them or can he fire me over refussing to wash someone elses dishes?
