Can a widowed grandmother's guest be seated by her?

I attended my granddaughter's wedding last week and was seated with my guest in the grandparent's row. The wedding coordinator came to the front of the church and told my guest she had to move. Since I do not have a husband, having a guest attend with me is important. There was room for at least 12 people in the row and no one else was seated there. Was I wrong to feel hurt?
