Assembling desktop pc in India?

I wish to assemble a desktop PC using parts I wish to buy in a Delhi PC retail market (Nehru place). The parts will be all branded - intel processor, gigabyte motherboard etc. What is the chance that such a desktop will work as good as off-the-shelf Dell PC (say), and therefore save and have my say in selecting components? Any previous experience assembling a Desktop in Delhi, India?
